Background
Oskar was born on April 28, 1908 in an area of Czechoslovakia that was considered part of Sudetenland and bordered Germany. He and his family considered themselves German because of their German decent. He came from a family of two children. He had a little sister who he loved dearly. His mother, Louisa was very caring and his father, Hans, was a factory worker who enjoyed drinking, cigars, and affairs with other women. Schindler grew up next door to some jews and did not consider them “bad people” or “inhuman”. He knew that they were ordinary people like he and his catholic family were. He and his neighbors became very close which proved to be a very important relationship later in life. Schindler finished high school but wasnt interested in school. Instead, he took an interest in mechanics of cars and motorcycles from his fathers factory. As he grew up, he had many girl friends but he married a woman named Emily at age 20. in the 1930s, he joined the military for Czechoslovakia and hated it. when he got back, he did not devote himself to emily but instead cheated on her with other women he met in cafes at night. In 1935, his father left his mother and three years later she passed away lonely and brokenhearted. at her funeral, oskar was so mad at his father for leaving that he did not talk to him.
